During the 2019/2020 Covid-19 pandemic, Troop 53 has successfully continued to operate.

For the past months, our troop has been meeting using Microsoft Teams video conferencing system. Having video conference calls has allowed us to function normally in this new way of life.

Using video conference calls, we have performed the following activities :

• Troop Elections
• Scoutmaster conferences for scout advancement
• Board of Review for scout advancement
• Computer Programming Merit Badge
• “Introduction to Leadership skills for Scouts” Class
• Games
• Jokes (A scout should always have a few jokes in his back pocket. One never knows when they might be needed)

As of this writing, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Troop 53 scouts have completed the following achievements:

• 63 Rank advancements requirements
• 309 Merit badge requirements
• 3 Scout awards

Achievements have been completed via troop video conferences, and, at the Gorham Scout Ranch Summer Cyber camp.

The current year has been a difficult one for Troop 53, for scouting and for life in general. Troop 53 had to swiftly switch from meetings in person every weekend with one camp a month to meeting every week via video calls exclusively. Troop 53 raised to the occasion. We have provided continuity to troop activity and built the groundwork for when we will restart activities in person.

All Scouts and leaders are eagerly looking forward to the day when all restrictions will be lifted.
